Lighting in the workplace should take into consideration a number of factors:
- Lighting design
- Type of work
- Emergency lighting
Development
Key to the lighting design was incorporating recommended luminescence levels from CIBSE (Chartered Institute of Building Services). Office environments generally have a recommended range of 300 to 500 lux dependant on the area. This range depends on the visual requirement of the task. The lower range of the recommended scale is ideally more focused on screen based tasks or telesales. Tasks that are more visually dependant such as proof reading require up to 500 lux.
The lighting plan was also designed in consideration with the office layout to ensure work areas were sufficiently lit for the task, glare was kept to a minimum, lighting was even and luminaires were at the correct brightness level suitable for the environment. Good lighting not only ensures a well-lit working environment but also has to meet health and safety regulations, with sufficient provision to ensure employees can be directed quickly and safely in an emergency evacuation.
Delivery
Working with the appointed contractor from initial concept through to delivery, the project was delivered on time and to highly positive feedback.
Advance Operations Director Craig Price, commented on Total Objects project:
“The benefits of LED lighting are well documented and the lighting solutions we have provided for Total Objects in their new office space, follow suit and delivery an enhanced working environment, increased energy performance and a stylish design for both staff and clients.”
