Advance was commissioned by Next to develop a wireless shelving system to integrate with their new Homeware gondola display.
Whilst Next had reviewed wireless systems in the past, it was felt the existing solutions on offer were too expensive and a more cost effective alternative was needed.
Brief
The brief was to develop a wireless shelving system that utilised industry standard, low cost architecture. The LED lighting offered needed to compliment other areas of the store with under shelf lighting, in both specification and performance.
Key facts
- Nearly 9,000 units produced to date
- 55 stores nationwide
- 252,000 LEDs utilised
Development
The main challenge of this project was the need to use raw, brushed aluminium for the shelf brackets. This was in order to create the right look as there was no opportunity to insulate the system.
During the development process, Advance produced three alternative solutions for the client with the final design ensuring the highest levels of safety were achieved as well as look and cost.
Delivery
Working in conjunction with SPL, the incumbent lighting furniture manufacturer, Advance developed a joint manufacturing process with free issued components to ensure cost effective delivery.
Summary
The wireless shelf system has proven very successful and through a number of design iterations additional improvements have been made.
